We will first visit the east end of the CP Bensenville yard. While this yard is primarily served by CP, it also sees a multitude of other railroads transiting through from the North and the East/South.
The next stop will be Matteson, Il. There is a viewing platform overlooking the old EJ&E tracks now merging into the CN tracks as well as the old IC north/south main. After that we will head to Chicago Heights. There is a level crossing of the CN (east/west, old EJ&E) and the UP/CSX (north/south, old C&EI). The remainder of the day will be spent at Dolton, IL where you will see plenty of activity with crossings and switchovers. A majority of the traffic is CSX but you can see up to 35 trains easily during the daylight hours from various railroads including NS, UP, CSX and IHB.
I hope you will be able to join us for this railfanning excursion.
